Other Protected Species Surveys
Mountain Ash Ecology provides professional protected species surveys to support planning applications and development projects across Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Gloucestershire, the Cotswolds, and the wider Midlands.
Many development sites contain habitats suitable for protected and notable species, even where their presence is not immediately apparent. Identifying these species at an early stage helps ensure that potential ecological impacts are properly assessed and appropriate mitigation measures are incorporated into development proposals.
We undertake surveys and assessments for a range of species, including great crested newts, reptiles, badgers, breeding birds, otters, and water voles. Our services include habitat suitability assessments, species specific surveys, ecological mitigation advice, and ecological supervision during development works.

Great Crested Newt Surveys
We undertake habitat suitability assessments, environmental DNA (eDNA) surveys, and conventional great crested newt surveys to establish the potential presence of this protected species. We also provide advice on appropriate mitigation measures where development may affect great crested newts or their habitats.

Breeding Bird Surveys
We provide breeding bird surveys and nesting bird assessments to identify potential ecological constraints associated with development. Our recommendations may include appropriate timing of vegetation clearance, protection of active nests, and measures to enhance nesting opportunities.

Reptile Surveys
Our reptile services include habitat suitability assessments, presence/absence surveys, and advice on mitigation and habitat management. Surveys help identify potential impacts on reptiles and inform appropriate measures to protect them during development.

Otter and Water Vole Surveys
We undertake habitat assessments and species surveys of watercourses and associated habitats to identify their suitability for otters and water voles. Findings inform recommendations for further survey, avoidance, and mitigation where development could affect these species.

Badger Surveys
We undertake badger surveys to identify setts, field signs, and areas of activity within development sites. Our assessments consider potential impacts on badgers and their setts, with recommendations for avoidance, mitigation, and further investigation where required.
We also provides specialist bat surveys and mitigation services.
